Taliban Bombing Kills at Least 20 at Kabul Police Station

The Taliban has taken credit for a suicide attack on a police complex in Kabul that killed 20 people and wounded 29 more. The New York Times reports that the suicide bomber targeted a security checkpoint, and that they majority of the casualties were police officers. The attack appears to be part of a mounting offensive by the Taliban against the Afghan government’s security forces. Recent reports from the country indicate that casualties among security forces in Afghanistan are increasing. The frequency of these attacks does not bode well for the current efforts on the part of China, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the United States to start peace talks with the Taliban.
