A bombing in the Syrian city of Homs has left 20-30 people dead and over 100 people wounded. The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, which targeted a security checkpoint in a primarily Alawite district. The bombing consisted of a car bomb and a suicide bomber, and many of the casualties were security personnel. The Syrian Army is actively fighting the Islamic State in regions east of Homs, and this bombing demonstrates the ability of the Islamic State to project force and inflict damage, even outside of the areas that it controls.
