Colonel Sam Hartwell (Ret.)
Colonel Sam Hartwell (USA, Ret.) is a West Point graduate and former U.S. Army intelligence officer with decades of service across multiple theaters of conflict. Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, he has been based in Kyiv, where he works closely with Ukrainian and allied partners on humanitarian and security advisory matters. He lost one of his closest friends and West Point classmates early in the conflict and lives in his friend's former apartment in Kyiv, just a few blocks away from a memorial wall that bears his picture.
