President Obama is planning an official visit to Cuba sometime in the next few weeks. The New York Times reports that the visit would be the first in 88 years, and that the goal is to facilitate the normalization of relations between the U.S. and Cuba. Additionally, official talks about expanding trade and business opportunities between the two countries began on Wednesday. However, officials from both nations feel that the responsibility for expanding those opportunities lies with the other country. The U.S. believes that Cuba needs to do more to make it easier for American business to work there, and Cuba believes that the U.S. needs to drop its sanctions. The talks are ongoing, but the likelihood of the sanctions being lifted seems low.
