Ground Truth: The Disconnect, Context and Challenges of Israel's War against Hamas

OPINION / EXPERT PERSPECTIVE — I had the privilege recently of participating in a study visit to Israel sponsored by the Jewish Institute of National Security for America. Along with a group of retired U.S. flag officers, the trip afforded the opportunity to gain additional insight into the strategic and military operational aspects of the current conflict, to include extensive briefings from commanders of units recently rotated out of the fight. I came away with the conclusion that there is a serious disconnect between the realities of this conflict and external public perceptions. Here’s a look at what I consider the most acute areas of this disconnect.
