Death toll up to 70 from Islamic State Damascus attack – monitor

A suicide attack carried out by the Islamic State on a Shi’ite shrine in Damascus has left more than 70 people dead. Reuters reports that the attack targeted a military bus that was bringing in militiamen for a changing of the guard at the shrine. The attacks came while representatives from the various factions of Syria’s government and opposition began peace talks in Geneva. The full extent of the effect that this attack will have on those talks in unclear.
