The United States announced unilateral sanctions against North Korea on Wednesday, which has angered China. Reuters reports that China is opposing the sanctions on the grounds that they will only increase tensions on the Korean Peninsula. The new sanctions will freeze the assets of anyone who does business with broad portions of the North Korean economy and block the export of any goods from the U.S. to North Korea. China’s primary concern appears to be that the new sanctions could destabilize North Korea.
