The FBI has claimed in a recent court filing that Apple helped the Chinese government access several thousand customers’ phones – a claim that Apple is refuting. According to the BBC, Apple is saying that the FBI’s accusation is based on unreliable news reports and that it is an attempt to impugn Apple’s reputation. This event will likely serve to increase the tensions between Apple and the FBI, as both now appear to be working to portray themselves as protectors of consumer rights and privacy in order to win public opinion to their side.
