Ambassador: US to Continue South China Sea Flights, Sail-Bys

The U.S. ambassador to the Philippines has stated that the United States will continue to exercise its  “rights under international law to sail through international waters” in regards to the portions of the South China Sea that China has claimed as its own. The New York Times reports that the ambassador has also said that there is a possibility for joint patrols in the area that would include forces from both the United States and the Philippines. The situation in the South China Sea is already very tense, and it remains to be seen how these remarks will affect the situation.
