At the fourth Annual Threat Conference, The Cipher Brief will proudly present the inaugural Lifetime National Security Award to veteran intelligence professional, Mr. Charles E. Allen.

The Lifetime National Security Award honors individuals in both public and private sectors through various administrations who have protected the security of our country through their service to the intelligence community.

“There are few, if any people more responsible for the growth, development and success of American intelligence than Charlie Allen. He will always be one of my heroes,”       – George J. Tenet, former Director of the Central Intelligence.

“Charlie has brought his formidable experience and talents to bear during such historic episodes as the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, and the post 9/11 fight against al Qaeda,” – Michael Chertoff, former Homeland Security Secretary

A maverick, Charlie has always pushed for innovation in intelligence gathering. During his 40-year CIA career, Charlie served as principal adviser to the Director of Central Intelligence on collection management and revolutionized the way national intelligence agencies coordinate and target their activities. Later, Charlie became the Under Secretary for Intelligence and Analysis at the Department of Homeland Security.

Charlie currently serves as Principal of The Chertoff Group, a global advisory firm specializing in security and cyber security risk management. He is a two-time National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal recipient and continues to shape new national security leaders through mentoring and friendship.
