U.S. says China deploys fighter jets to disputed South China Sea island

China has sent fighter jets to the disputed South China Sea island on which it previously established surface-to-air missile batteries. CNN reports that this is not the first time that China has sent jets to the island, which it has occupied for 50 years, and that the missiles are still the larger problem from the U.S. perspective. The decision to send the jets only a few days before the U.S. Secretary of State and the Chinese Foreign Minister are scheduled to meet is being seen as a sign that China will continue to aggressively pursue its agenda in the South China Sea.
