The South Korean National Intelligence Service (NIS) has reported that the number of cyberattacks originating from North Korea has doubled in the last month. The Washington Post reports that the NIS announcement came after North Korea tried to hack into South Korea’s railroad control system and the networks of several financial institutions. North Korea has also attempted to hack into more than 300 smartphones that belonged to defense officials, and achieved some limited success. North Korea has continued to deny that it is responsible for the cyberattacks.
