About the Speakers:

Gen. David H. Petraeus
Former Director of the CIA

General David Petraeus (US Army, Ret) served over 37 years in the U.S. military, culminating his career with six consecutive commands, five of which were combat, including command of the Multi-National Force-Iraq during the Surge, U.S. Central Command, and Coalition and U.S. Forces in Afghanistan. He subsequently served as Director of the CIA. He is now a partner in a global investment firm (and chairs the firm’s global institute), a member of a number of private and public boards, engaged in several academic appointments, a private venture capitalist, and a regular contributor to discussions on global security and economic issues. He graduated with distinction from the U.S. Military Academy in 1974 and later earned a Ph.D. in international relations and economics from Princeton University.

Susan M. Gordon
Former PDDNI

Susan M. Gordon is the former Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence, serving from 2017-2019, where she advised the President on intelligence matters and provided operational leadership of the 17 agencies and organizations of the Intelligence Community (IC). She is a widely respected authority on risk management, technical innovation, and cyber and space issues. Today, she is an active board member, university fellow, and advises private companies in the areas of technology, strategy, and leadership.

Throughout Ms. Gordon’s more than three decades in the IC, she led large scale organizational change and delivered revolutionary outcomes. Ms. Gordon worked to adapt the IC to emerging economic, military, and political trends impacting the current operating environment. Ms. Gordon led the establishment of In-Q-Tel, the Central Intelligence Agency’s venture arm, in the 1990s. In the last several years, she focused on advancing intelligence integration across the IC, expanding outreach and partnerships to the private sector and international allies, and driving innovation across the Community.

Dr. Jason Matheny
Director, CSET at Georgetown University

Dr. Jason Matheny is founding director of the Center for Security and Emerging Technology at Georgetown University.

Previously he was Assistant Director of National Intelligence, and Director of IARPA, responsible for the development of breakthrough technologies for the U.S. intelligence community. Before IARPA, he worked at Oxford University, the World Bank, the Applied Physics Laboratory, the Center for Biosecurity, and Princeton University, and was the co-founder of two biotechnology companies. He is a member of the National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence and the National Academies’ Intelligence Community Studies Board; is a recipient of the Intelligence Community’s Award for Individual Achievement in Science and Technology, the National Intelligence Superior Service Medal, and the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers; and was named one of Foreign Policy’s “Top 50 Global Thinkers.”

Mark Valentine, Col (ret) USAF
General Manager, Microsoft’s National Security Division

Mark Valentine is the General Manager of Microsoft’s National Security Team where he focuses on delivering advanced technologies to warfighters and analysts across the military and intelligence community. His most recent efforts include adapting cloud computing, artificial intelligence and mixed reality tools to generate insight for military personnel, increase training efficiency and enhance operational outcomes.

Prior to joining Microsoft in 2015 he served in the US Air Force for over 25-years as a fighter pilot, commander, and staff officer at Headquarters US Air Force and the Joint Staff.
