Dr. Robert Ovelman
Dr. Robert Ovelmen joined the CIA in 1980, serving in a variety of positions as an analyst and supervisor of analysis. He was Chief of the German Working Group, an analytic unit charged with providing intelligence support to policy makers grappling with the aftermath of the fall of the Berlin Wall and the subsequent process that led to German unification. Dr. Ovelmen served on the staff of the President's Daily Brief, as a briefer and planner. In the immediate aftermath of 9/11 he was appointed co-chief of the CIA's Red Cell; he remained in this post until his retirement. Dr. Ovelmen received a number of awards for his contributions to the CIA's analytic mission, including the 2004 William L. Langer Award—the Agency's highest analytic award—and the Distinguished Career Intelligence. Medal.
