James Jeffrey
Former U.S. Ambassador to Iraq and Turkey

Ambassador James F. Jeffrey is the United States Special Representative for Syria Engagement and former U.S Ambassador to Iraq and Turkey.  Prior to his current assignment, Ambassador Jeffrey was a Cipher Brief Expert and was the Philip Solondz distinguished fellow at The Washington Institute where he focused on U.S. regional, diplomatic, and military strategy, as well as Turkey, Iraq, and Iran. He previously served as assistant to the president and deputy national security advisor in the George W. Bush administration, with a special focus on Iran.
