Research Assistant, International Security Program, CSIS

Michael Matlaga is a research assistant with the International Security Program at CSIS, where he focuses on NATO, Russia, and other European defense policy issues. Prior to joining CSIS, he worked with the Alliance for Securing Democracy and Security and Defense Policy teams at the German Marshall Fund of the United States. Earlier, he worked as a civilian research assistant at the National War College and as a research assistant at the Middle East Institute. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in public policy from the University of Chicago in 2016 and with a master’s degree in security policy studies from George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs in May 2018.
